The Migratory Bird Season Enhances Lăng Cô’s Natural Beauty

Few people know that the name “Lăng Cô” originally stems from “Làng Cò” . Historically, this tranquil lagoon region became a natural sanctuary every autumn, attracting thousands of white storks and wild bird species from October through December. Their seasonal arrival created a vivid natural spectacle that defined the unique character of the Lăng Cô landscape.

In recent years, however, intensive trapping and poaching along the lagoon shores have put severe pressure on the local ecosystem. Consequently, migratory bird populations declined sharply and the once-familiar sight of white storks began to vanish from many traditional feeding grounds.

To reverse this trend, local authorities have stepped up public awareness campaigns, dismantled illegal bird traps and enforced strict penalties against violations. Supporting these local efforts, Laguna Lăng Cô initiated a wildlife conservation project for 2025–2026, backed by the Greater Good Grants (GGG). This program focuses on restoring and securing safe habitats for local wildlife.

These proactive measures have delivered encouraging results. During this year’s migration season, large flocks of white storks and native bird species returned in noticeable numbers across the Laguna Golf Lăng Cô course and surrounding wetlands.

The return of these birds serves as a powerful reminder of nature’s resilience and value. For Laguna Lăng Cô, collaborating with local authorities to protect the regional ecosystem is more than wildlife conservation – it is a commitment to honoring local natural heritage. When nature is preserved, the timeless beauty of Lăng Cô truly endures.
