Update on Hole #1 Flood Mitigation Works

Dear Members,

Many of our long-time members will be familiar with the challenges posed by heavy winter rains at Hole #1. When the adjacent lagoon is at full capacity, standing water has historically flooded both the cart path and the surrounding bunkers. In severe cases, this has even forced temporary course closures, as golf carts were unable to safely navigate the flooded sections.

To address this ongoing issue, we have been progressively implementing a two-stage flood mitigation project.

Stage One – Cart Path Elevation

Six months ago, during the course closure in June 2025, we seized the opportunity to raise the existing cart path by 700-800mm. This elevation has successfully protected the electrical systems of our golf buggies, allowing safe passage even during periods of heavy rain. We are pleased to report that this improvement has performed exactly as intended.

Infrastructure upgrades and drainage improvements at Hole #1 to ensure a consistently enjoyable golfing experience year-round

Stage Two – Bunker Drainage System

The second phase of the project is now well underway, though it may not be immediately obvious to the casual observer. Under the expert direction of Jason Blacka and our dedicated golf course maintenance team, we have installed a main stormwater pipe that runs the full length of the large bunker complex between Hole #18 and Hole #1 – a distance of over 400 metres. This pipe exits near the Hole #16 tee box and discharges into the adjacent canal. Importantly, the pipe is fully buried beneath the sand, ensuring the bunker’s visual presentation and playability remain completely unaffected.

Over the coming months, we will install a series of tributary pipes at strategic points along the main line. These will connect directly to the primary drainage system, allowing accumulated rainwater to be cleared from the bunkers as quickly as possible, minimising any disruption to play.

We are optimistic that this comprehensive solution will significantly improve conditions during the wet season and enhance the overall experience on Hole #1.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we invest in the long-term quality of Laguna Golf. We look forward to seeing you on the course soon.

Warm regards,
Laguna Golf Management Team
