The Denpasar-Da Nang route is scheduled to operate four round-trip flights per week, enhancing connectivity between Indonesia and Vietnam. This includes connecting services to Da Nang from Jakarta and Labuan Bajo via Denpasar.
Low-cost carrier AirAsia Indonesia is set to inaugurate a new international route linking Denpasar (Bali) with Da Nang (Vietnam) starting March 20. This marks the airline’s seventh international route departing from the island of Bali.
As the sole operator of the Denpasar-Da Nang route, AirAsia aims to strengthen tourism connectivity within Southeast Asia.
According to Mr. Achmad Sadikin Abdurachman, Acting CEO of AirAsia Indonesia, the new route will offer passengers more flexible and convenient travel options within the region.
“The inclusion of Vietnam into AirAsia’s existing network in Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, and Australia will make it easier for travelers to plan multi-destination trips across the region,” Mr. Sadikin emphasized.
The Denpasar-Da Nang service is expected to run four times weekly. The route also bolsters links between the two nations by providing seamless connections to Da Nang for passengers originating from Jakarta and Labuan Bajo (East Nusa Tenggara) through Denpasar.
The launch of this route is part of AirAsia Indonesia’s broader international expansion strategy from Bali. On the same day, March 20, the airline also plans to debut direct flights from Denpasar to Perth, Adelaide, and Melbourne (Australia). Mr. Sadikin noted that the multi-destination tourism model is expected to stimulate cross-border travel and increase passenger traffic between Indonesia and Vietnam.
Previously, Tony Fernandes, CEO of Capital A Berhad—AirAsia’s parent company—stated that the airline plans to expand routes connecting Indonesia with North Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. The company is also considering increasing services to domestic destinations such as Belitung, Lombok, Pontianak, and Balikpapan.
According to statistics, in the first 11 months of 2025, Vietnam welcomed over 19 million international arrivals, a 20.9% increase over the same period last year. The Southeast Asian market specifically saw a growth of 13.8%.
During the same period, Indonesia hosted approximately 13.9 million international visitors, including more than 80,000 from Vietnam, highlighting the significant potential for bilateral tourism growth.
I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in Denpasar remains one of Indonesia’s busiest international gateways, handling over 7 million international passengers in 2025. This represents an 11% increase from the previous year and the highest level ever recorded for Bali tourism.
