Seedlings Mentorships

Let’s help the underprivileged children’s dream come true with Laguna Lăng Cô!

Seedlings Mentorship Program is a long term commitment of Banyan Tree group, giving underprivileged youths an equal chance of achieving their full potential in life.

Follow the Group Initiative, Laguna Lăng Cô first launched this program in 2015 to support all school fees as well as school supplies, together with Laguna Lăng Cô associates acting as mentors who will guide and inspire the young students in their formative years until age 18. This program has long-term development values and will continue to take in new students in the coming years.

2023

Date: August 2023

For the 2022–2023 school year, we have all 14 mentees supported through the Seedlings Mentorship Programme. As of June, four mentees had graduated from 12th grade and left the programme. In addition to encouraging students to achieve good results in their studies, we focus on building trust and lasting relationships with each family of mentees. Orient the children to develop based on the strengths of each person.

2022

Date: August 14, 2022
Location: Laguna Lang Co’s office

Seedlings Mentorship Award Ceremony 2022 was held on Sunday, August 14, at Laguna Lang Co’s office. After being directly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic for two years, this is the first time 17 mentees and some mentors have come together in a meaningful and close event. Furthermore, engaging activities to promote connection have been developed to allow them to interact.

We are glad to note that 8 of 17 mentees got excellent academic results last school year. Kim Yen and Quynh Trang, in particular, won third place in Geography and History in the grade 12 provincial competition for outstanding students.

Working in a workplace that embraces and respects differences, we understand and keep hoping that all of mentees can start the new school year with a passion for learning based on thier strengths and become active citizens of society.

2021

Date: November 2021
Location: Three different secondary schools in Loc Thuy, Loc Tien, and Loc Vinh Commune

In the rainy days of November in Thua Thien Hue Province, we continued our mission of selecting and offering scholarships to three students from three different secondary schools in Loc Thuy, Loc Tien, and Loc Vinh Commune as part of the Seedlings Mentorship Program

The Banyan Tree Global Fund (consisting of guest donations and the Laguna Lang Co resort fund) will fund this scholarship, which will cover tuition, monthly extra-class tuition charges, uniform and learning material expenditures.

This is a long-term organization that helps students aged 12 to 18. As of 2021, we have successfully conducted 7 batches, with a total of 17 students supported (including 14 current students and 3 new ones).

While the COVID-19 pandemic has had a significant impact on corporate operations, we will take steps to ensure that students have equal opportunity to study and grow. We will pay 1 USD (for guests staying at Angsana hotel) and 2 USD (for guests staying at Banyan Tree Hotel) to the Fund for each night of stay at Laguna Lăng Cô to support community activities and long-term growth in this district.

2020

Date: August 2020
Location: Hoa Mau, Phuoc Tuong and Trung An in Loc Tri commune, Phu Loc district

With the participation of Mr. Adam Calver – Director of Golf Course and Ms. Figen Bulut – Hotel Manager, we combined Seedlings Mentorship Program with Rice Donation Program, we had family visits and gave textbooks, school supplies to students; gave 60kg of rice and basic necessities for their families in 27 – 28 August 2020.

110 bags of rice (total weight of 2.2 tons) were donated to the students in Seedlings Mentorship program and some families in difficult circumstances that were badly affected by the Covid-19 epidemic in Phu Loc district.

With the support with the nuns at Phuoc Son pagoda, we are also very pleased to have donated more than 1.1 tons of rice to families in extremely difficult living condition as well as the disabled in 3 villages: Hoa Mau, Phuoc Tuong and Trung An in Loc Tri commune, Phu Loc district. In which, each household received 20 kg of rice.

Seedlings Mentorship Program and Rice Donation Program are held annually with the participation of numerous staff in the resort. There were 22 people joined in supporting community activities during the second outbreak of Covid-19 in Vietnam.

2019

Date: 21 April 2019
Event day: 25th July 2019 – Angsana Ballroom

On July 25th, 2019, the 5^th “Seedlings Mentorship” ceremony was held to provide scholarship to three additional local students in Phu Loc District as well as honor students with outstanding study results in 2018 2019 school year. By the end of 2019, 15 poor students received the scholarship from the company to cover their tuition fee, uniform, textbooks and extra class costs. In addition, we actively called for the kind donation from associates, guests and individuals to help another three kids to receive the same benefits to access to better educational services. Such support enables young people with academic potential not to drop out of school due to economic difficulties or problems and will have a brighter future.

30 Laguna Lang Co associates voluntarily act as mentors for these teenagers. Through monthly visit and exchange on phone, mentors have update information on the situation of the mentees’ family as well as their progress at school. Mentors have also provided advices and share their own experience in solving issues at schools and in life which are very useful for young mentees at the beginning of their adolescence.

2018

Event day: 26^th July 2018 – Angsana Ballroom

The Seedlings Mentorship Ceremony 2018 was held at the Angsana hotel on July 26. The event was a chance to look back on the development of the mentees and mentors over the last three years and to present scholarships to three additional children in disadvantaged circumstances. The event also welcomed representative from the Phu Loc Education and Training Department, local schools where our mentees are studying, Laguna Lăng Cô management and mentors from different departments who committed to support and mentor disadvantaged students in the coming years.

Since the first launched in 2015, 12 local youths with disadvantaged family background and in the high risk of leaving school benefiting from the program.

2017

Event day: 19^th July 2017 – Angsana Ballroom

The 3rd Seedlings Mentorship program ceremony was held in Angsana Lăng Cô ballroom with full of touching moments. This year, the scholarships were presented to 3 more local underprivileged students aged 12, increase the number of students benefited to 9 since its first launch in 2015. Also, 6 more qualified associates coming from different departments were selected as mentor’s role, accompanying with our students until the age of 18.

2016

Event day: 29^th June 2016 – Angsana Ballroom

After the official 2015 launch of the Seedlings Mentorship scholarship program by Banyan Tree Group in Laguna Lăng Cô with 4 young students from Phu Loc and Kim Long, Thua Thien Hue, this year Laguna Lăng Cô presented the scholarship to 2 new students aged 12 from Nước Ngọt 2 and Binh An Primary school. The program also chose 4 qualified associates coming from different departments as mentor’s role, accompanying with selected students until they complete the program.

2015

The program selected 8 qualified Laguna Lăng Cô associates with experience of guidance to be mentors for 4 marginalized youths aged 12 to 15 with difficult family backgrounds in Thua Thien Hue province. This year, Laguna Lăng Cô provided school fees for mentees’ new school year, conducted monthly visits to guide and inspire mentees in their studies, either by assisting them with any problem raised or providing extra tuition.
