Enhancing Course Excellence: A Balanced Approach to Maintenance and Play at Laguna Golf

Dear Members,

At Laguna Lăng Cô Golf Club, we understand the passion our members share for early morning rounds under golden sunlight or late afternoon play (on their 2nd round) on pristine fairways. Nothing compares to stepping onto a perfectly manicured course, ready for your best game. At the same time, delivering those exceptional conditions requires dedicated time for our agronomy team to perform essential maintenance – mowing greens, raking bunkers, fertilizing, and more.

Since July 2025, under the leadership of Jason Blacka, our Golf Course Superintendent, we have refined our maintenance schedule to strike the optimal balance between member access and course quality. The goal is simple: provide you with the finest playing surfaces possible while maximizing your opportunities to enjoy them.

Our team begins work at 4:00 am, starting on Hole #1. By focusing efficiently on the front nine first, daily tasks are typically completed by 6:15 am, allowing the first tee time at 6:00 am in summer / 6:18am in winter. The crew then moves to the back nine, aiming to finish by 8:15 am – just ahead of the lead groups. This structured approach ensures all essential morning tasks are completed by 8:30 am, freeing the team to enjoy a well-deserved breakfast before tackling targeted projects in areas away from active play.

This change has already delivered measurable benefits. In previous years, busy days often forced the team to pause repeatedly for playing groups, leaving critical tasks unfinished. Today, our agronomy crew consistently completes their full daily and weekly routines, resulting in healthier turf, smoother greens, and more consistent playing conditions throughout the day.
Respecting the Maintenance Schedule: Standard Starting Procedures
To maximise the effectiveness of this schedule, we kindly ask all members to follow our standard starting procedures – beginning play from Hole #1 at your booked tee time.

Requests to start at 6:00 am on Hole #10, or to begin on Hole #1 and then skip ahead to “free” holes, unfortunately disrupt the carefully planned maintenance flow. When groups start on the back nine early or jump holes, they often overtake or intersect with the agronomy team still working on those areas. This forces the crew to stop work repeatedly, stand aside for play-throughs, and ultimately leave some daily tasks incomplete. Over time, these interruptions can compromise the overall consistency and quality of the playing surfaces we all enjoy, as witnessed in early 2025.

By adhering to sequential play from Hole #1, everyone benefits: the maintenance team stays ahead of play, completes their work efficiently, and delivers the exceptional course conditions that make Laguna Golf special.

On Mondays – our traditionally quieter day – we delay the first tee time to 9:00 am. This provides an additional three hours for more intensive (yet essential) procedures such as light top-dressing, verti-cutting, and green aeration practices. By performing these tasks more frequently but with reduced intensity each time, we minimize any short-term impact on play while achieving superior long-term course health.

We are committed to keeping Laguna Golf among Vietnam’s premier golf experiences. These thoughtful adjustments reflect direct feedback from members and industry best practices, ensuring the course you love remains in peak condition year-round.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding. We look forward to seeing you on the course soon – ready to enjoy the outstanding conditions your membership deserves.

Warm regards,
The Management & Agronomy Team
