Statistics from the Ministry of Health show that annually Vietnam has had around 10,000 kids born with congenital heart disease, and many of them come from poor families unable to afford cardiac surgeries. Central Vietnam is one of the regions with the highest number of child cardiac patients in the country.
Laguna Lăng Cô Managing Director Gavin Herholdt said: “As an investor in Central Vietnam, we see it as part of our mission to create a positive impact in the community. Children, and especially kids born with heart disease, are priority beneficiaries in our CSR programmes. We believe that with access to proper healthcare, these children have the best chance to make a full recovery and lead normal, productive lives.”
In addition to Swing for the Heart, Laguna Lăng Cô has initiated numerous CSR programs during recent years, including the Environmental Cleaning Campaign, School Water project, Elderly Care and Silent World art exhibition for young people with hearing impairment.
In 2017, Laguna Lăng Cô implemented 15 community projects with over 2,000 beneficiaries. Currently, the resort is working on four major programs, including the Seedlings Programme (created in 2013) to provide vocational guidance and job opportunities in the hospitality industry for young people aged between 18 and 24; English is Fun (since 2014) which provides free English classes for local students; Elderly Care project to help seniors in Thua Thien-Hue Province; and Reading is Fun which delivers books to children in Phu Loc District in Thua Thien-Hue Province.
